Verifying a copy
CURRENT, SUPERSEDED, UNRECOGNIZED — what each verdict means.
How to verify
- Open the link printed on the document (or scan its QR), or go to getobsol.com and choose Verify a copy.
- Drop the file you received.
- Your browser hashes it locally — the file is never uploaded — and compares the fingerprint with the on-chain record.
The three verdicts
| Verdict | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| CURRENT | The copy matches the latest anchored version. | Nothing — you have the right version. |
| SUPERSEDED | The copy is a genuine earlier version; a newer one exists. | Open the current version from the verify page. |
| UNRECOGNIZED | The fingerprint matches no anchored version. | The copy was altered, re-exported or never registered. Ask the sender for the original. |
Why a re-saved PDF can show UNRECOGNIZED
The fingerprint covers the exact bytes of the file. Printing to PDF again, compressing, or editing metadata produces a different file, even if it looks the same. Always verify the file exactly as you received it.
Verifying without Obsol
The record is public. Every version on a verify page links to its Solana transaction, so you can confirm the fingerprint and timestamp on any Solana explorer without trusting our servers. You can compute the fingerprint yourself with sha256sum file.pdf.
